Terrene
About This Spot
Stepping into Terrene, you’re welcomed by a bright, unhurried space tucked into a corner of downtown San Francisco’s bustling Financial District. It’s not the kind of place that rushes you; instead, it invites a moment of ease amid the city’s usual pace. Whether lingering over morning coffee or settling in for a midday meal, the rhythm here feels casual yet thoughtfully crafted, where the hum of conversation blends gently with the clink of glasses and soft footsteps across warm floors.
The atmosphere leans towards approachable comfort—a space where you might find yourself sharing a table with locals who value fresh, straightforward food and a setting that’s both inviting and relaxed. The ordering style encourages a friendly independence: you place your order upfront and then watch as thoughtfully prepared dishes arrive at your table, each one carrying a story of local farms and seasonal ingredients.
Food at Terrene moves beyond mere sustenance; it’s a quiet celebration of flavor and texture, where small plates and satisfying mains coexist. Imagine the sharp, smoky notes of a flatbread balanced with the seasonal crunch of fresh vegetables, or the bright, vibrant hits from carefully chosen herbs and spices that whisper of Mediterranean corners and California’s bounty. Drinks here support the meal with a curated selection—whether it’s a nuanced spritz refreshing your afternoon or a rich, comforting latte to start your day.
What truly holds the experience together is the sense of human connection and genuine care felt in everyday moments—the attentive yet low-key service, the informal seating where friends gather and newcomers find a cozy corner, and the ease with which a simple brunch can turn into a quiet celebration. It’s the kind of spot where, even amid the city’s constant churn, you might discover the small pleasure of a well-made meal shared with good company.

Terrene in San Francisco feels like one of the city's hidden gems, definitely underrated. We originally came for breakfast (which ends at 11am) and had just missed it, so we stayed for lunch and were not disappointed The space is located within a hotel and has more of a causal service process where you order first, seat yourself and the food is brought out to your table via a number tag. We ordered the Harissa chicken bowl, a matcha latte with coconut milk, and an açaí smoothie. The chicken bowl was fantastic, super fresh, vibrant ingredients, perfectly grilled chicken, sweet onions and veggies, fluffy grains, and a flavorful sauce that brought everything together beautifully The matcha latte tasted like it was made with ceremonial grade matcha: smooth, rich, and not too sweet. The coconut milk complemented it perfectly without overpowering. The açaí smoothie was also a hit: fresh and refreshing The vibe of the place is stunning, it reminds me of the Public Hotel in NYC meets The LINE in LA. Minimal, modern, and thoughtfully designed. It's right by the Embarcadero, which makes it a great spot to start a walk along the waterfront (just be prepared for SF parking chaos) The prices are a bit on the higher end, but the quality and experience make it well worth it. 100/10 would come back, and finally try the breakfast!

Good dining experience. The chefs are very skillful. Every dish is cooked to perfection and I enjoyed every bite. Ingredients are directly sourced from local farms. Very fresh. Dinner service is great (but breakfast basically has no service). Cute interior design (great for family / friend gathering). Now, couple negatives : first, portion size of the dinner items is small for its price. Second, HealthySF” 8% fee is a surprise. It’s not a government mandate. It’s just a label put on there to raise profit. It would be better to just raise the price of each item by 8% instead of charging a fee as it makes pricing confusing and seemingly deceiving. Second issue is that large espresso drinks don’t come with a ceramic cup but that it must be served in a paper cup. 1 Hotel is emphasized on being green. This practice doesn’t go along with 1 Hotel’s ideology. That said, overall, still a very great restaurant and we enjoyed both meals !

This is my third time here, and this place never disappoints! I got the steak skewers and the burger—both were so good, I’ll be ordering them again next time. And the fries? Perfectly thin and crispy, absolutely delicious!

Came here for a birthday and we were seated right away, the space was lovely, the service was wonderful and the food was really good! Luis was our server and he was so kind and patient with our large group and even my yappy dog. I’m so glad we came here for my birthday Luis and the other staff made it feel really special. I definitely reccomend!

Came here for a double date and it was so pretty inside! Good: - The plates all come pretty quickly - babaganoush with the pita came out super quickly and generous portion of pita - The lamb pita was delicious - small but the meat was very juicy - The ice cream dessert was huge - and great for sharing! Super refreshing too - The veggies were all scrumptious - the elote stuck out the most with the corn and super tasty sauce. Bad: - Pretty expensive for pretty small plates, portions are very small - Hard to flag down the waiters - Brussel sprouts were just average, the shakshuka was a bit too lightly flavored for me Overall this was a nice upscale date experience!

We had a wonderful time here. Even though we were in a hurry, everything came out quickly and was delicious. We ordered the eggplant baba ghanoush, which was incredibly flavorful and served with warm, fresh pita bread. The steak skewers were another highlight—so tender and perfectly cooked. The service was great, and the staff were attentive. The atmosphere was beautiful and festive, making the experience even better. If I could suggest anything to management, it would be to add a few more specialty non-alcoholic drinks, some hot beverage options, and a wider selection of desserts. Overall, though, we really enjoyed our visit and would happily return.
